This gorgeous Moses basket is handwoven by Ghanaian weavers and co-operatives in Bolgatanga and surrounding villages in the Upper East Region of Ghana, Africa.

Basket has 2 options:

1) foam covered pad and 1 fitted sheet

2) organic cotton futon, wool pad and 1 fitted sheet

Choose white or natural organic cotton for the fitted sheet.

Basket measurements vary slightly as they are handwoven-

Outside Length: 35 inches (Inside bottom basket 29-30 inches)

Outside Width: 17 inches (Inside bottom basket is 15 inches)

Outside Height: top - 12 inches, foot of basket - 8 inches

Handles: 10 inches tall and made of leather

To produce these beautiful and practical baskets the tradition of weaving is passed down from generation to generation making these individually woven baskets strong, durable and flexible.

All baskets are imported from Africa and are made of all natural elephant grass.

The majority of the grass is hand-dyed using traditional natural dyes made from plants and minerals as well as non-toxic fabric dyes to achieve contemporary colors. The natural grass is boiled in the dyes in cast iron or aluminum vats before being sun dried.

Most natural dyes are sourced locally, while some are imported from Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire and Ethiopia.

Elephant grass is a species of grass native to the tropical grasslands of Africa.

Another name for these Ghana Moses baskets is: "a Bilia basket" which means newborn in FraFra, one of the languages of the people in Ghana. There original design in this basket weaving style.

SAFETY WARNING

Do NOT carry your baby in this basket. This is not meant to be a baby carrier. Remove your baby from the basket and carry separately while you relocate the basket.

The basket should be located on the floor or Moses basket stand- as to avoid accidental tip over or falls.

The basket is designed for newborns. Once your baby can roll unaided, seek alternative bedding.
